If it has as much content it will be worth every penny. Most MMOs sell expansions for about as much as a whole new game ON TOP OF a monthly fee.

ya...I agree it will be worth it. And hopefully the expansion comes out as late as early half 06....so I can justify buying the game again

I disagree..... most games sell expansions for 19.95, which is at least half the price of the orginal games....when new, the games go for 49.95, but do come down in price after the initial rush to buy is over.... I'm hoping Anet keeps it around the $20 mark for expansions, or else they will be hard pressed to sell enough of them.... I'm pretty sure *I* won't be paying another $50 for an expansion.

True, but most expansion aren't equal to the original game, either, in length or content. You're using an incompatible comparison: "other" expansions are half-price because they're often half as long, or have half as much stuff, etc. If the expansions really are comprable to the original game, then it only makes sense they'd charge as much.

Of course this is all speculation until we actually see what they produce when the times comes.

If the content is as big as the first one, I will get it. Though, I'd probably wait a few months until the initial price drop...... I'd get it when it falls to 30-40 bucks.

Of course this isn't what the dev's want to hear, lol

Even if an MMO sells an expansion for $20 (most don't go that low, at least not when they first come out), add that to, say $10/mo (again, a low figure) in monthly fees. Now let's say it's 6-12 months between expansions. That brings the cost to $80-$140 every 6-12 months. Starts making that $50 not look so bad, doesn't it? Anyone who has a problem with ANet's pricing scheme is either a) bad at math or b) a total tightwad.

Accually most expansion packs sell for forty or thirty dollars when they come out then go down to about twenty dollars. Thats what EQ expansions do anyway.

hmmm... you say most.... then say only eq.....

guess I'm used to older games, never saw anyone trying to sell an expansion for more than $20. I never bought an expansion for eq, I got an eq with a slew of expansions included for less than $50, and it was store bought.... AO starts their expansions at $20, and now you can get them ALL for 9.95..... it seems it's a matter of older games vs newer games. Of course newer games cost more especially at the beginning of their life cycle. Guild Wars is the ONLY game I ever preordered, it's the only mmo/mmorpg/corpg/whatever that I ever paid the original price. I have more patience, and wait till the price drops $20 about a month or 2 after release. Seems I'm not as impatient as the 'average' gamer, comes with age and with playing these damnable computer games since Pong on the Atari, & Castle Wolfenstein on the commie 64....

In any case..... time will tell, and for those that HAVE to have the latest and greatest first, youwill pay more for that priviledge, and more power to ya....

I was able to purchase the original release GW for $39.99 the week it came out, so spending as much for the next chapter sounds good to me if the amount of content is the same or more.

Hmm.. Here's some math for you:

I played SWG with my husband for about 18 months. We had three characters. That's 3 game copies ($50 each) plus 3 expansions ($40 each) equals $270. 18 months times $15 per month times three accounts (SWG had one character per account, no multi-account fees.) equals $810.

SWG: $270 + $810 = $1080

GW costs us two game copies (we got em for $40 each). So far I've spent $80 dollars. If I continue for 18 months and they release a new expansion every 6 months and assuming I pay the full price of $50 each, that's another $200.

GW: $80 + $200 = $280

Add on minimal camping, griefing, grinding, etc.... OH YES, I'll definitely pay full price for GW expansions.

They will release as much content as the original game. In essence, they could name is Guild Wars 2. Would that make you happy? Surely you'd enjoy playing in both worlds (gw1 and super expansion) at the same time, on the same hard earned character.

If they charge 50 bucks for an expansion, it will be worth it. Otherwise they could/would NOT do it. Anet knows what sells and what does not. The only short expansions we'll see that are the size of other game expansions will be FREE via streamed to us.

I'm happy now, I'll be happy then. I just won't be buying the game twice personally, thanks. From the beginning, (I've played in all the bwe's and preordered) I knew it would be a small world for the pve. The game is all about the pvp and gvg. I planned to take my time through the world, and participate in the gvg when I was done exploring. I've just hit level 19 a few days ago, and just arrived at Sanctum Cay. This is a really fun game, but it is no way a replacement for a game like eq, or wow, or mxo, etc. It's a great addition to any of the big mmorpg's, a great change of pace from the leveling treadmills and uber leet high level gankers and what not.

So once I clear my map, ascend, capture the wanted elite skills, I'll spend time practicing with my guild, doing gvg and some pvp, and enjoy that aspect of it. If/when the expansions drop to the $20 level, and no other game is bright and shiny enough at the time, I'll consider buying it. I am by no means your 'average' player, that's obvious. But to each their own eh?? How many people are wondering how in the world can I play this for over a month and just be getting to Sanctum?? I wonder why in the world they want to rush 2 players in 1 day through ascension. It depends on why people are playing the game, and what they want out of it. I am in no rush to 'beat the game', and I'm plenty able to hold my own now in pvp or gvg, and will only do better once I get some more skills unlocked.

it states it will not be an expansion but an entirely new chapter with the same amount of content as the present game and be priced accordingly/

unless you find GW in the bargain bin at 20 i dont think you will find the expansion either.

as for speed i am still behind you smelling the flowers
